Description: PATS surveyed farmers in 1999 and 2000 to document the adoption patterns of herbicide tolerant (HT) soybeans. Farmers report a rapid rate of adoption of HT-soybean within a few years of its introduction. The percentage of Wisconsin soybean producers using HT-soybean varieties increased dramatically from 1998 to 1999 (from 28 to 53 percent), and then decreased slightly (to 50 percent) in 2000. The amount of land planted to HT-soybean acres increased at a similarly dramatic rate, from 16 percent of soybean acres in 1998 to 45 percent and 57 percent in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
